For many veterans, some memories never fade.
Recently, Wellington Place at Whiting resident and Korean and Vietnam vet Howard Thelemann had the opportunity to take part in a truly unforgettable experience through Dream Flights, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America's veterans with free flights in restored Boeing Stearman biplanes. Since its founding in 2011, Dream Flights has provided thousands of veterans across the country with the chance to once again experience the thrill of flight while celebrating their service and sacrifices.
Howard was among the veterans honored during Dream Flights' recent visit to the Stevens Point area. As he climbed into the open-cockpit aircraft and took to the skies, he joined a growing number of veterans who have been recognized through this remarkable program.
Dream Flights was created with a simple but powerful mission: to give back to veterans and preserve the stories, experiences, and legacy of a generation that has given so much to our country. The organization provides these flights at no cost, creating moments of joy, reflection, and connection.
For residents, families, and team members at Wellington Place at Whiting, seeing Howard's experience unfold was a reminder that meaningful adventures don't stop with age. Whether it's reconnecting with a lifelong passion, sharing stories from years past, or embracing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, these moments continue to enrich lives and create lasting memories.
At Wellington Place, we believe every resident has a story worth celebrating. Howard's Dream Flight is a perfect example of how honoring those stories can bring a community together. Family members, friends and supporters gathered to watch the Stevens Point event. The local fire department honored veterans with a patriotic backdrop of a large American flag displayed from an extended ladder truck, Eggin' 4 Heroes provided lunch, and a local television station covered the event. It was a special day filled with gratitude, pride, and support for Dream Flights and veterans.
We are grateful to Dream Flights for their commitment to recognizing veterans and for making experiences like this possible. Most of all, we are proud to celebrate Howard and his service to our country.
